Summary: Loki & Bruce go on a roadtrip to gather the Infinity Gems

They defeated Ultron. The world was safe. Bruce should have been happy about that, right? After all, he'd played a part in ending the conflict. That's what heroes did - they saved the day, and then everyone loved and praised them for it.

 

Only, the whole thing had been his fault to begin with. If he hadn't helped Tony, Ultron would never have existed. Trying to defeat him meant more loss of life. How many innocent people had died before they managed to stop him? How many people had died at his hands? He'd always managed to shake it off before, but not this time.

 

So he'd flown away from everything, from the Avengers and Vision and the life Tony had given him, as far as he could go. He'd landed somewhere in Asia, in a rural area, where he could keep a safe distance between himself and everyone else. From there he'd just wandered, picking up jobs here and there, acting as a local doctor before moving on to the next tiny town to start the cycle over again, never staying anywhere for too long.

 

Of course, trouble always managed to find him sooner or later. Generally sooner.

 

He'd just finished delivering a baby - the irony was never lost on him, not once - and, after washing up, he'd gone outside to clear his head. It was then that he saw a very familiar gold-horned, green-clothed figure heading towards him. Repressing his immediate instinct to Hulk out, Bruce steeled himself for whatever was about to happen.

 

"What do you want, Loki?" He didn't even attempt to hold back the bile in his voice. Even though they'd never communicated, not really, Bruce could remember their past interactions clearly enough to know this visit would not end well.
